50 Shades of Sam, Set 2 of 5

Set 2 of my #50ShadesofSam challenge was using Photoshop to recreate the style of famous artist and/or art period.

In college, I remembered it being remastering an old master’s painting. Back then, I redid a Vemeer painting with chalk pastel. That inspired me to use Photoshop as the medium to do all manipulate these different physical medium.

All the photos in this set was shot by me and repurposed for the work.

Shade 11: Van Gogh

To create the Van Gogh style, it’s mostly painting on the WACOM. I spent a lot of time getting the strokes into place. But the overall effect just requires using the filter gallery: palette knife, paint daub, and poster edges. I followed the basic tutorial here for some tips but overall had to play around to get the right texture for the image.

Shade 12: Banksy

Creating the stencil look for this was only hard by trying to get the correct level and B&W effect. For the background, I used a photo from Chateau de Chillon, where I was proposed so it has meaning to put a stamp of myself there.
